“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
Lately, my spirit has been quieter than usual. My prayer life has shifted from loudness to stillness, from words poured out in urgency to a deeper kind of worship that rises quietly from within. Sometimes my heart sings instead of speaks. Sometimes my prayer is less about many words and more about simply being present before God. And while part of me wonders if I am doing something wrong, another part of me knows that God is faithfully leading me through a season only He fully understands.
It is easy to measure prayer by sound, passion, or intensity. We can begin to believe that if we are not always crying out loudly or feeling spiritually “hot,” then something must be missing. But God is not limited to one way of meeting with His children. There are seasons when He invites us into deep stillness, not because He has gone silent, but because He is doing something holy in the quiet. In those moments, my heart is full, my spirit is alert, and I sense that God is working even when my lips are resting.
This season has taught me that stillness is not emptiness. Stillness can be surrender. Stillness can be trust. Stillness can be the very place where God shapes us, strengthens us, and prepares us for what comes next. I do not need to force what God is gently cultivating. If He is calling me into quiet prayer, then I can rest there with confidence, knowing that my silence is not distance from Him but a place of closeness.
My prayer this week is that God will teach us to embrace stillness in our hearts and spirits so that we can hear Him clearly. Let this be so and so it is in Jesus’ name. AMEN!
