In a world that often equates perfection with success, it can be challenging to embrace our imperfections and recognize their intrinsic value. The story of Jacob, as found in Genesis 32:22-31, is a profound reminder that our imperfections are integral to God’s work of making us complete. The scripture describes Jacob wrestling with an angel of God. After the struggle, Jacob is immensely blessed but he is left with a limp.

Genesis 32:28-31 (NIV)
“Then the man said, ‘Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.’ Jacob said, ‘Please tell me your name.’ But he replied, ‘Why do you ask my name?’ Then he blessed him there. So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, ‘It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.’ The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel, and he was limping because of his hip.”

Jacob’s limping, irrespective of all the blessings the Lord gave him reminds us that completeness is not achieved through flawless lives but through the transformative work of God in our imperfections. That one encounter with God can alter your life forever and true wholeness is found in relationship with God only.

In our own journeys, we may wrestle with imperfections and face challenges that seem insurmountable. Yet, we must find encouragement in Jacob’s story, knowing that God is at work in our lives, using our weaknesses to draw us closer and manifest His strength within us. Embracing our imperfections, we step into the fullness of who we are called to be, complete in the hands of a loving Creator.

I pray for you this week that the Lord will give you an encounter that will transform your life to total wholeness. I declare it is so and so it is in Jesus’ name. AMEN!

XOXO,

Lady Abena.
