1 Kings 19:7 (ESV)
“And the angel of the Lord came again a second time and touched him and said, “Arise and eat, for the journey is too great for you.”
The background to this scripture is that Elijah the prophet was fleeing from Queen Jezebel at the time. He was so exhausted because Jezebel was pursuing his life. He had told God that he, prophet Elijah, has had enough with life and he pleaded with God to take his life. So, he had come to lay under a tree praying that he would die so that all the problems and all the burdens he had would go away. Then an angel of the Lord came to him and gave him food to eat and water to drink. After eating and drinking, he went back to sleep, praying again that the Lord will take him away. The angel of the Lord came back again and woke him up and told him to eat again, get up and keep going because the journey is very very far and a daunting one. The Bible says that that food strengthened him for forty (40) days in his journey.
Elijah’s situation is what most of us face daily. The journey of life ahead of us is way too far, too long, too great, too tasking and sometimes excruciating, exhausting and filled with many disappointments. Sometimes you feel like just throwing in the towel or even wonder why you are here. Now, if one of the greatest prophet that ever walked on the surface of this earth, ELIJAH, once felt the same way you are feeling, then please know that no one is exempt from these situations. Just know that there is something called supernatural empowerment provided by the Holy Spirit which comes upon a man and empowers you to keep going in this life’s journey. God does not end the journey even when you ask Him to, He gives you the strength to keep going through the fire, rain or storm. The journey ends only when He says it is finished.
I pray for you this week however daunting your journey has been, however close you are to throwing in the towel. I pray that the holy spirit will empower you like He empowered Elijah so you can accomplish your journey on earth. Let it be so and so it is in Jesus name amen.
XOXO,
Lady Abena.
