Do you have one of those people in your life who will call you often to see where you are in life compared to theirs? I was sharing with a friend (Ms. A) that I have a constant encounter with another friend, (Ms. B), who will call me quite often and ask me so many questions about areas of my life and some challenges I have been battling to see if they have been resolved or if I’m still fighting those battles. In my ignorance I thought Ms. B was constantly checking on me out of concern or care for me until my friend Ms. A made a comment that Ms. B was comparing notes with me. It was the first time I heard “comparing notes” used in a negative way because I thought comparing notes means you’re exchanging ideas, thoughts or opinions on common subject matters.
Apparently what some people do is to compare if they are on the same level with you or they are ahead of you based on the life challenges or battles you’re facing. That’s pathetic isn’t it? I look at people’s progress as an inspiration for me to also grow in the different areas of my life and not to compete to see who’s doing better or not. I also look at people’s challenges and battles as an opportunity God is using uniquely to grow them in certain areas of their lives. If there’s anything life has taught me thus far, it is that we all have a unique blueprint for our lives and our journeys and experiences will never be the same hence there is absolutely no wisdom in “comparing notes” on who’s leading or who’s losing in life.
2 Corinthians 10:12 MSG
“We’re not, understand, putting ourselves in a league with those who boast that they’re our superiors. We wouldn’t dare do that. But in all this comparing and grading and competing, they quite miss the point.”
There you have it. I pray for you this week that the Lord will engrace your life with peace and contentment. That He will enable you to run your race and accomplish the purposes He has planned for your life. I declare it is so and so it is in Jesus’ name. AMEN!
XOXO,
Lady Abena.
